A Wirral teenager has died in a fatal motorcycle accident in Oxton, with another teenager suffering critical injuries. Motorcycle driver Jack Byrne, who had only recently turned 18, sadly passed away following a collision with a car on Merseyside. The pillion passenger suffered critical injuries but is now in a stable condition.
A statement by Merseyside Police said: “The passenger suffered serious multiple injuries and was critical, but his condition has since stabilised and he is improving.”
Inspector Chris Dillon, a member of the Matrix Serious Organised Crime Roads Policing Unit, said “This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the death of an 18-year-old man and has left a teenager in a critical condition in hospital. Our thoughts are with the families of all those concerned at this very difficult time. We are still working hard to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision so that we can understand exactly what happened to Jack and his friend.”
“We’d always urge anyone using a motorbike, whatever the type, to use the correct safety equipment. We’d also appeal to people to make sure they keep their vehicles well maintained whether they are being used on or off road.”
This is a point which we would like to echo. Being outfitted with the correct safety equipment when riding a bike is of vital importance. Having acted for many clients who have suffered terrible injuries in motorcycle accidents, we are acutely aware of the positive impact of being correctly equipped.
