A witness has described a woman as “very lucky” after she escaped serious injury in a car accident on the A55 this morning.

A woman’s vehicle was left upside-down in a ditch after coming off the A55 following a three-vehicle crash.

Following a three-vehicle crash, the woman’s vehicle left the road near Bodelwyddan Castle turning upside-down in the process.

The vehicle came off the A55 and was left upside-down in a ditch, where the woman remained trapped until the emergency services arrived.

Victim released using hydraulic cutting equipment

Fire crews from Rhyl and Abergele were called out to the scene of the accident, along with police and paramedics.

The emergency services arrived at the scene between Junction 25 and Junction 27 at around 10am this morning.

A North Wales fire and rescue service spokeswoman was alerted to the incident involving two cars and a light goods vehicle at 9.59am.

She said: “One female casualty was released from the vehicle using hydraulic cutting equipment. She was taken by ambulance to hospital.”

The spokeswoman said that they helped paramedics carry the patient to an ambulance and made her car safe.

The casualty is believed to have been taken to the nearby Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.

A witness added: “She was lifted out of the wreckage but seems to have been okay. She is very lucky.”

A bad morning on the roads

In a separate incident, a driver was involved in another road accident on the A55 near Threeways Garage in Abergele.

The crash occurred on the eastbound lane, and firefighters were called to the scene at 10.17am, however it is not thought to be serious.

While the area was battling a hailstorm and heavy rain at the time, it remains unknown if the weather played a role in causing the accident.
